The Five Ws

"In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last itme."
1 Peter 1: 3-5

A good journalist makes sure his story answers the five Ws, which are the framework of his report: who, what, when, where and why. The apostle Peter does just that in these few verses, satisfying the reader's need to know the Gospel:

  •      Who? Jesus Christ
  •      What? Our new birth into a living hope, our inheritance
  •      When? Upon his resurrection from the dead
  •      Where? Kept in heaven
  •      Why? Because of his great mercy
When a person steps out in faith to say, "I believe Jesus is God and he died for a sinner like me", that faith is protected by God's mighty power until the very last day of his or her life (or until Christ comes again, whichever comes first.) Believers live in hope that is undefiled by this world, a hope that is kept safely in heaven, where moth and rust do not corrupt.

God's mercy is indeed a beautiful thing. Rest in his unchanging grace and receive Christ today. You will never regret it.
