Hannah's Prayer

"In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord...Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard...Then she went her way and ate something and her face was no longer downcast."
Samuel 1: 1-20

There is much to learn from the faith of Hannah. Although her husband loved her very much, she was childless. His other wife, big help that she was, provoked Hannah to no end about it, deepening her sadness. "In bitterness of soul" Hannah poured out her grief to God; when she was done, she was cheerful. Was she now pregnant? Was she given a guarantee her prayer was heard? No, but she had faith. She called upon the name of God and departed with her burden behind her.
Prayers that reveal your true grit, your earnest desire or your state of bitterness mean so much more to God than the recitation of a memorized statement. He really does want to know you, so let it all pour forth to him. He's listening!
